Wisdom from the Field: Innovations for Clinical Practice - 2011

Because nurses and healthcare personnel are caring for an older population, it is important to understand the needs of the patient with an aging brain. The goal of this seminar is to provide information that advances your knowledge in the care of your geriatric patients. Another goal is to provide information concerning stroke since stroke continues to be the third leading cause of death according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This two day seminar will address both these issues. Day One will begin with a discussion of dementia and provides an encore presentation by Jan Dodge Dougherty, MS, RN , the Vicki Appel Distinguished Lecturer on caring for a patient with dementia. The day will progress with presentations concerning the health issues for the aging patient. Day Two will begin as the director of the Eddy Scurlock Stroke Unit shares her journey as her husband recovers from a stroke. The day continues with presentations that will provide a picture of challenges that your stroke patients face. This program is designed for nurses who care for the neuroscience patient.
As in the previous years for Wisdom from the Field: Innovations for Clinical Practice, there will also be a presentation by the Vicki Appel Distinguished Lecturer.
